The problem only occurs when no user is logged in. In other words, Martin got an installation error on his systems when installing the window update for Adobe Reader, which ends in a crash. This "crashed" in our SYSTEM without a logged in user.

If you are using a 64-bit system the key is a little different. Replace it with the appropriate version for example: 10.0 or 11.0. 
In the path above, we used as a variable for whatever version of Reader you are using. Setting the value to 0 will disable automatic updates. The entry is called bUpdater and is a DWORD value. 
If you are using Reader on a 32-bit system the key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\\FeatureLockDown. Unidesk recommends using Group Policy to disable automatic updates or you can manually set the flag in the registry when building the application layer. It is best to turn off automatic updates completely. If Adobe Reader is allowed to do this, the updates will go into the personalization layer and thereby bloating the personalization with unnecessary updates. You can also download the installer and install from a network share if desired.Īdobe Reader, by default, will want to automatically update itself.
